Welcome to Saginaw Michigan, 48603.

Saginaw is one of three cities that make up what is known as the Tri Cities or Saginaw Valley. The other two cities are Bay City and Midland Michigan. I was born and raised in Bay City but moved to Saginaw about thirty five years ago when I married and started work for General Motors.

The Tri Cities are about 13 miles apart with Saginaw and Bay City situated on the Saginaw river and Midland about 12 miles to the West.

If your are a hunter, enjoy fishing, boating, snow skiing, snowmobiling, water sports, camping, or just hanging out on the beach, Michigan is the place to be.

Michigan is also the home of the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Pistons, Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans, and as you may know or have gathered by now, we love our sports. So if you are looking for someplace to go or something to do, head for Michigan, don't forget to stop in Saginaw though.

Watch here for some interesting facts about Saginaw, Michigan.

S. Epatha Merkerson from the series Law and Order is from Saginaw Michigan.

Larry Borjas, ? of ? and the Mysterians is from Saginaw. Played against them in a battle of the bands in Bay City just after they released 96 Tears. Sad to say Larry's home burned down a couple months ago, he lost everything. Hang in there and good luck in the future ?.

Edward "Sonny" Stitt (February 2, 1924 ? July 22, 1982) was an American jazz saxophonist. He was a quintessential saxophonist of the bebop idiom and was also one of the most prolific saxophonists of his generation, recording over 100 records in his lifetime. He was nicknamed the "Lone Wolf" by jazz critic Dan Morgenstern in tribute to his relentless touring and his devotion to jazz.

A Little Bit About Life in My Town
Saginaw offers a full range of dining, nightlife, golf courses, sporting events business opportunities, and entertainment.

We're not really known as a resort town but we are centrally located and adjacent to anything you might like to do or or anywhere you might like to visit in Michigan.

Daily life in Saginaw is like most midsized towns around the country, the work week Monday thru Friday, but come the weekend you will find local highways and expressways busy, as people are headed into Northern Michigan to lakefront homes, snow ski areas, campgrounds, hunting areas, snowmobile trails etc. It's common practice to try to get Friday or Monday off work or even both to get the extended weekend up North and to avoid bumper to bumper traffic on Friday or Sunday evenings.

Personal Interests
Born and raised in Bay City, about 13 miles to the North, I graduated in 1962.

As a kid I had a burning love for music, boats, and water sports, and I have been active in all three my entire life.

Although I spent a few years playing in local rock bands my thoughts of becoming a rock star were interrupted by the military, a wedding, children and the desire to provide three squares for everyone and keep the bill collector off my door step.

I/m now retired from GM, (a year now), an electrician for 32 years.

I am what I consider an "Old Rocker". I am always looking to meet other rockers of any age. I still love to jam and I still love the boats and water sports.

I guess I'm just an old kid still living the dream but with the added benefit of a wonderful wife of 39 years, two children, a wonderful daughter-in-law, one granddaughter, the second to arrive soon, and an Austrailian Sheppard who rarely leaves my side.

I am also a ham of about 20 years, the call is AJ8Z.

Found out yesterday that Saginaw was the first city in the united states to have an electric street light. It was suspended by a rope across the main intersection in downtown Saginaw. Flint Michigan was also the first city in the US. to have a traffic signal.

Did you know that Stevie Wonder was from Saginaw?

Its a heat wave. Got into the mid twenties today, plus sunshine. Can't beat that. It warmed up a little just in time for the end of the Walleye fishing contest. Looks like 10.375 lbs will take the first prize unless someone gets lucky tomorrow.

Still darn cold last night with temps below zero, but at least it warmed up to about 20 today. Almost bearable now. This is tough after having been in the Bahamas for a week. But don't get me wrong, I will take this over the storms the folks in the South have been getting.

Got up this morning, - 6 degrees outside with a wind chill factor of -24 degrees. We are doing a Walley fishing tournament on the Saginaw River this week. Its called Shiver on the River, dah.

Cookie, Thanks for asking about us over on the Wichita page.

I meant to tell you that you earned the extra credit and remain the King of Rock Trivia. The Dead was a good answer, although there were many alternatives. One of my favorite versions of "All Along the Watchtower" was by Dave Mason. No one plays his stuff anymore, but it was good.

Cookie, Sorry to hear about your loss. The cottage sounds like the kind of place I would go to for the same reasons. Wish I could say I was a musician. Never learned to play a note on anything, but it doesn't stop me from listening.

Great job on the quiz! You nailed 1 and 2. 3 I would have to research..can't say you are wrong, just not one of the names I think of as one of the original Allmans. On 4 you get full credit, but I see that my question was cut off.. it was supposed to read "Dylan's classic song 'All along the watchtower'". Wanna go for extra credit? 5 you nailed: The title was 'Her Majesty' from The White Album and it lasted 23 seconds. 6 and 7 were dead on.

Let it be know to all readers that Cookie is the king of the Rock Quiz! I guess it's time to change the questions.
