Personal Interests
For the whole story of Capt. Bill Flowers, his love of fishing, and his knowledge of the St. Johns River, we have to take you back many years. His family first came to Volusia County Florida in the 1880's, long before Florida was the mecca for tourists and retirees that it is today. The St. Johns River was an area of Florida's early development, as the river flowed halfway through the eastern part of the state from Vero Beach (flowing slowly northwards) to Jacksonville, and provided a means of transportation along its 310 mile length.

Beginning in the 1940's and continuing to this day, the St. Johns River has been well known for great fishing. Capt. Bill's father, Tom Flowers, was an internationally known fishing guide who regularly guided U.S. Senators, Congressmen and Generals on the river in the 1950s and 1960s. [A trip with President Harry Truman was once booked but then cancelled by the U.S. Secret Service].

He passed on all his secrets of successfully fishing the St. Johns River to Capt. Bill, and more than that... he imparted to him also his knowledge and respect for all the living things; trees, animals, birds and fish, that make the St. Johns a wonderful and unique ecosystem.

Capt. Bill, in turn, has sought his whole life to share the knowledge learned from his father and from his own life on the river with others. He has been a guide for over 40 years, taught a course in Fresh Water Fishing at Daytona Beach Community College for over 20 years, and writes a regular newspaper column on Fishing the St. Johns River.

A day spent with Capt. Bill is unlike a day spent with any other fishing guide. Give him a call!
