Selling Your Claim

Sales of Claims to any particular town (identified as a zip code) can be negotiated between the Claim Owner and any other party by any means: email, phone, in person discussion, Internet Auction (eBay for example) or through contact via the Make Me An Offer link found on Claim Owner Pages.

However: 1) the buyer must verifiably reside in that same zip code (address associated with credit card is used to verify residence) and, 2) the transaction must be registered and recorded through OnTheMapUS. A Transfer Fee of 10% of the Claim sale price will apply with the transfer of ownership. [The buyer must pay the Transfer Fee so that residence in the town can be verified].

A new Certificate of Claim Ownership will then be issued by OnTheMapUS to the newly registered Claim Owner.

Here is an example of how a transaction would work:

1) A Claim Owner accepts an offer from a verified resident of that particular zip code for $300 as the annual value of the Claim. The Claim has 265 days left until its anniversary date.

2) The buyer would pay the seller of the Claim $217.80. That number represents the value of the Claim that is left (265 days left in the Claim divided by 365 days in a year = .726) That number is then multiplied by the agreed upon annual value of the Claim or $300, resulting in $217.80 to be paid to the seller.

3) OnTheMapUS verifies and records the transaction, a Transfer Fee of 10% ($21.78 in the above example) is paid, and the New Claim Owner is issued a Certificate of Claim Ownership.

Upon the anniversary date (which is the same as the original Claim Owner's anniversary date or 265 days from the transaction, the new Claim Owner will have the right to Renew his or her Claim at the newly established market value of the Claim of $300.
